i purchased full insurance coverage from avemco last june on the lancair iv.

value hull coverage. this went into effect after the first 10 hours were 
flown off. i assume that for the test flight, by the lancair pilot, that he 
would not have been covered either. maybe the lancair people cover their 
pilots under a company policy (except fot the value on your plane) . i was 
told by the avemco rep that after the years insurance was up  that they 
wouldnot cover the airplane.
the cost for the insurance , based on a hul value of 450,000 canadian was 
14,200 canadian. first 10 hours take your chances.
does anyone know what would take place if the factory rep was to crash ? 
hurt or kill himself ? and you on a check out?  i never did ask that of 
lancair.
would eaa help out to get their members covered for fair values with the 
company they advertise to go with? i doubt it.
what or where do other high risk , high value aircraft get insured? such as 
the warbirds , restricted private ex military jets?
what is taking place with lancairs with the turbines ?
it would be nice if our organization , the eaa , would help to resolve the 
insurance problem with avemco , they must have some pull , but i would think 
that they bring a lot of insurance to avemco on so many homebuilts , that 
they make a good amount of money from this and that the lancair guys are 
just a small portion of the pie. probably not worth the time to help out.
if you were to ask lancair about where to insure their airplanes , what do 
they suggest?
