One of you recently asked the factory to sell them a nice Lancair two axis
trim indicator and reported to us on the LML that they would not sell it by
itself. Well, you're lucky. I have one in my Lancair panel and among other
problems Lancair doesn't want to deal with is that nice trim indicator.
It is connected to the instruments dimmer pot and only the white surround
lighting dims, although not very well being an LED back light. The real
problem is the UV/Blue high intensity doides used for the off axis
indicators. They could blind you in daylight. When the dimmer pot is
rotated to "dim" the back lighting on the lettering goes go dim in a ragged
step as diodes do when connected to a normal dimmer pot and at full dim the
blue/UV doides suddenly go brighter. Not a good thing. It will have to be
turned off at night so there is no trim or indication in order to see.
Blue is such a bad choice for a cockpit light anyway as it steals ones night
vision. Dull red might be a choice.
We now have a $98,000 Lancair/SFS panel with some serious problems which, as
of today, Lancair doesn't want to pay freight for me to return for repairs.
