I still like the Gyro Horizon replacement for $2,800 from http://www.bluemountainavionics.com/. I can afford to throw that much away every year. I can not, however, and will not put a $50,000 piece of equipment into a $70,000 plane at all, ever.
I do realize that avionics prices are arbitrary. Some systems cost millions. For aircraft that cost under $100,000, however, one piece of avionics equipment that cost $50,000 is just plain to expensive.
