Back in 1998, when I had just purchased my plane and after I had flown it home from Carson City, I wrote a note to the Lancair Mailing List. Below is an excerpt from that note.

Coming across the Rockies, I ascended to 19,500 ft(22,500 density altitude) to get to smooth air. It was over 100 degrees on the ground. The airplane indicated 140 mph(122 KIAS). True air speed was 200 mph(174 KTAS). I would have never believed that a small winged normally aspirating aircraft could have flown that fast that high.

I still don't believe it but it is true. I still wasn't at the service ceiling. I just have to try this again but it will wait for a cross country with a tail wind.
