I have door s/n 004 and it is well made with one big exception. The black
tape around the window is/was covered with Hysol which was never wiped off.
Allowed to harden was a thick (1/8"+) tall bead of adhesive which in large
areas covered the width of the tape. Having had already gotten a second
door, I decided not to say anything and remove the mess myself at a later
date, which was last Thrusday.
In the process of removing the tape and the hard Hysol by chipping and
grinding with a metal sheild protecting the plexiglass I discovered a large
area of delamination. The Hysol has separated from the plexiglass in a
large area at the top just aft of the forward corner. (I now have the door
oriented properly, Mark.) I can stick a steel scale down in there 1.4".
The delamination runs well over 3", close to 4". Looking into the 1/16" gap
with a very bright light I can see the plexiglass was not roughed up much at
all.
Has anyone else with a fast build door had anything like this? I'm really
worried about re-gluing the skin to the glass as I think it will come apart
just as easy later on. Maybe the rest of the perimiter will delaminate from
this area both fore and aft. I'm loath to install the door at this point.
There are way too many variables I don't understand here in the glueing
process done in the Phillipines on door No. 4.
I would appreciate any input others may have on this.
Thanks in advance,
