Lets assume that you would fly the airplane 200 hours per year. We 
need to make this assumption so that we can change some of the hourly 
costs to annual.

                       Lancair       C-310(285hp-335hp)

Initial Cost        $70K-$100K         $150K-$300K

Annual Costs:
    Financing@10%  $7,000-$10,000     $15,000-$30,000
    Insurance      $2,000-$3,000       $4,500-$9,000
    Annual             $1,000             $10,000
    Hanger             $1,800              $3,600

Per Hour Costs:       9 g/h             32-40 g/h
    Fuel              $22.50           $80.00-$100.00
    Maint             $30.00              $60.00

If we use the 200 hour per year assumed flight time and also assume 
midrange prices for both the LNC2 and C-310, we can now see that the 
LNC2 will cost approximately $24,300 per year while the C-310 will 
cost about $72,850.

What I personally do is hide the finance charge or cost of money from 
myself. This saves me(in my own mind) $8,500 per year. My cost are 
therefore only $15,800 per year. And guess what? That is exactly what 
my 3 year average costs have been.

I purchased my LNC2 therefore it is more expensive for me to have 
annuals and other fixes done.

C-310s along with all other Cessna twins have major AD problems with 
landing gear, engine mounts and engine exhausts. Be prepared to pay 
up to $50,000 to correct any one of these ADs.

If you are really considering getting a C-310, consider getting it 
with a partner. This will cut all fixed costs in half. The partner 
will cut the cost down to(if you still fly it 200 hours per year) 
$51,425 per year or $36,425 if you only fly it 100 hours per year. 
Also, if you can use it to generate income, the tax considerations 
along with depreciation will help defray the cost considerably.

I own both a LNC2 and a C340A(with a partner), I believe my figures 
to be accurate. If there are comments from other owners as to the 
operating costs, feel free to come back.
