What should the idle RPM be set to? Is 800 okay?

My O-320 can run as low as 550 rpm. Carburetor lean adjustments are made at 550 rpm. I have 550 hours on the engine. If I stop set the engine to 900 rpm, I would have to use a lot more brake power to stop the aircraft. If your engine dies at 600 rpm, it may not yet be broken in or you are having some other problem.

900 to 1,100 rpm are great numbers for idling and taxying around, but for stopping 600 rpm is much better.
