If it is less than 1/4 I doubt it will be noticeable in the air, but cosmetics are also important. I think cracking the trailing edge will be hard, If your TE is nice and straight cut the upper leading edge instead. Use a heat gun and peel off the bid between the front of the spar and the upper skin. Then cut the upper skin loose from the spar. Don't loosen the skin from the ribs. It should then be easy to rejigg, get some epoxy in the crack, and reapply the bids.
