You pay for the whole kit, but don't get > it all. They say I won't be getting all my parts until the end of next March! Put in perspective, this is the Kit Airplane Business and is not to be compared with standard business practices in other industries. The time line from flying prototype to shipment of complete kits is typically many months. Lance has been down this road many times (with previous designs) and the Legacy builders are the beneficiaries of their experience. It takes time to refine the design of parts (I saw several versions of center consoles and canopy frames when we were in the workshop in Feb.) then tool, produce and do the documentation on them. I am very impressed with the quality of the parts I have and the accuracy of the fit. Everybody in the kitplane business; Van's, Glasair/Glastar, etc. has had this same problem to solve . Builders clamoring for more parts and then the fixes that rushing to satisfy the demand create. It ends up costing the Companies and the builders time, money and frustration. It is evident to me the people at Lancair are trying very hard to do the Legacy the BEST way the FIRST time. PS: My aeronautical engineer hangarmate with several homebuilts to his credit, is finishing a Glastar which is so loaded with parts that don't fit, plans errors, etc. he thinks it has tripled the construction time to build it right.
