I've been using schedule 40 PVC ... 1" AND 3/4" ... with the majority of
piping in a freezing environment at 165PSI for 8 years.  No problems have
been experienced. I use a large diameter pleated filter bought from the auto
store for the intake air.  It's about 12" in diameter with a rubber seal
like is found for the old 360 cube Chevy filter.  I am using a Speedair cast
iron 2 stage compressor with an 80 gallon tank.  You can find these at W W
Grainger.  It does all I ask it to do up to and including sand blasting.
Grainger has several air compressors to check out.
