I don't know if that's possible to do in an ES, as we didn't know any better at the time and did mine the regular way, but it may be worth looking into. The left aileron in particular, with the trim tab and servo in it, was a real bitch to balance and now weighs a ton. We had to pound, shape and grind the weights to hang well forward of the flange and go quite a way down the length of it to get sufficient balance and adequate travel. Since there was very little lever arm to work with, the weight required was pretty sunstantial for such a small control surface. After gluing the weights in place with 5 minute epoxy, we wrapped everything in a layer of fiberglass so it stays put.
