This isn't the solenoid I was referring to. Obviously you need one of those.
What I was referring to was an electrical solenoid relay, normally one of
those intermittent duty relays mounted on the firewall or thereabouts, which
allows a low amperage wire from your starter switch to interrupt the current
in a big-ass wire coming from the output of the master relay. When Lycoming
installs the Sky-Tec starter, they leave the electrical relay attached to the
starter motor but wire the solenoid contacts (the control current) to the
relay contacts (the switched current) so that the switching function of the
relay is bypassed.
