This is good because you don't get the grinding of the turning pinion on the ring gear as you did with the old Bendix drives. You do not need a separate solenoid IF YOUR WIRING AND STARTER SWITCH ARE OF ADEQUATE CAPACITY. These solenoids pull about 10 amps and require at least 18 ga wire. The contacts in the mag switches, that have a start position, are not rated to carry this amperage. If you intend to use the START switch, on the mag switch, and the existing wiring you should go to a normal solenoid and then to the heavy solenoid that is part of the lt. WT. starter. I use the starter from a 77 Honda Accord which is similar to some of the Sky-Tech starters and I had starter switch points weld together, which burnt up the starter and scarred up the ring gear some. The only indication of the problem was I showed a heavy discharge on my amp meter and my voltage showed 14.1. When I landed and shut down with mixture the engine kept turning over.
