If you are building a light weight VFR machine you can get by with this instrument, a turn & Bank coordinator and attitude indicator, xponder and radio. A very lightweight package indeed. I use the RMI a lot and in fact with just depressing a switch you have true air speed. I use that often. Also when checked out for correspondence checks that puppy is right in sync with the test instrument. Didn't vary over 10 feet in elevation. In kit form it was an entertaining weekend to assemble and it worked the first time. If you are contemplating a modest improvement to your panel I would recommend a Micro Encoder. It has VSI,TAS, IAS,Altlitude, Density Altitude, Pressure Altitude, Altimeter, Outside Air Temp, you program your V Speeds, Stall warning alert. I know I forgot something. I can't say enough for it and the alerts are visual and audible through the headset. Try it, you'll like it.
