The new O360 in my RV6 came with the Lycoming starter. At less than 100 hours, I noticed the starter ring gear was showing contact only on 1/2 of the width of the top of the teeth. Lycoming's warranty lady (who was very easy to work with by the way) mentioned they had been replacing a lot of those starters. The Sky-Tec Lycoming supplied has been fine for over 600 hours so far The story I recall from Bill Baimbridge of B&C was that Lycoming did not want to pay his price, so they got the lowest bidder they could find to copy his starter and got what they paid for.
