Doug:  1/4 inch hard brake line is without question overkill.  A brake
system moves a minimum of fluid ( only to take up pad clearance and system
flex).  There is not any significant flow through the system once
activated.  Use the smallest line possible, definitely no over 3/16.  Not
only does a larger line add weight, the additional fluid volume and line
material adds flex to the system since the fluid is not 100% incompressible
and the line stretches under pressure.  For a clutch or other system that
relies on movement of larger amounts of fluid, the pressure drop of the
flow through the lines should be considered.
