I want to rivet a strip of Al along the inside of my cowl. I will also glue
it but I feel the need to have it well secured. To this end I will use
5/32" countersunk head rivets. I will also reinforce the inside edge of the
cowl, where the aluminum will be fastened, with two 3" widths of
bidirectional carbon fibre.
The countersink will be on the outside of the cowl. In a normal riveting
procedure the rivet gun with a flat head set would be applied against the
counter sunk head and the bucking bar would be used to form the head on the
inside.
Will this procedure adversely affect the fibreglass material? (I understand
that the countersink should be of such a depth as to allow the rivet head to
be slightly proud of the surface) I also intend to use glue on the rivet.
I have very limited experience of riveting and would appreciate some help
from those who have experience.
Many thanks in advance
