Lancair fliers and Lancair builders flying something else:
I recently installed a Monroy ATD-200 Air Traffic Detector. It utilizes bogie transponder replies to notify you visually and aurally of aircraft crowding your space. Indications start about 4 miles out, plus or minus about 1500 feet of your altitude and intensify if closer. While no bearing information is available and closing rate is only implied by more lights coming on, the device is like a second set of eyes whilst our heads are buried in the cockpit fiddling with other electronic goodies. For less than $800 you too can own this portable Velcro mounted safety device -- Somewhat less than the cost of Skywatch.
I have had several flights in my busy Chicago area and have verified its' ability to give a heads up on nearby traffic.
