Never done the job myself but if I were I'd:

locate the hinges
drill the rivet holes
bond the hinges in place with Hysol or other adhesive
hold the hinges in place using Clecos while waiting for the adhesive to
harden
after the adhesive hardens remove the clecos
redrill all the rivet holes
install the rivets "wet" using adhesive

This method of "bedding" the hinges and the rivets should eliminate any
fretting on the part of either you or the hinges.
