Robert and all,
3/16" rivets are known in the trade as "tac rivets". Take that for what
it's worth but be assured it doesn't include the "A" soft ones. They are
not even discussed. "AD" rivets are the minimum for any kind of structural
fastening. "A", or soft, rivets may sometimes be used for attancing
nutplates or some non-structural double flush application where beauty is
important, not strength.
In the cowl hinge application a 3/16" rivet will be of little help as a
chicken rivet but it is better than nothing. Use an AD426-4-? if you can.
You could even install it wet with Hysol 9339 for extra strength as you glue
down the hinge half to the cowl.
Thanks,
Walter Dodson IV-P 60%
