My advice would be to install a connector at least one foot forward of the
leading edge of the rudder. Provide stress relief for the connector by
anchoring it to the sidewall a couple inches aft of the connector. Your
main intent should be to eliminate any movement or ability to vibrate at the
connector. Vibration and movement are connector killers. If you can
isolate movement by installing adell clamps or some other such anchoring
device at least an inch forward and an inch aft of the connector, you will
ensure that the connector will provide reliable service for years....IMHO
