of the 180 or so iv/ivp aircraft completed and flying, how many have had accidents/fatalaties.  of these how many were due to pilot error vs. manufacturer defects vs. design flaws.
obviously there is nothing certified that stacks up to the performance of the iv/ivp, but overall how does the iv/ivp safety record measure up against general aviation as a whole?  are these numbers available?
as a private intrument pilot soon to be ivp builder (with no previous aircraft building experience other than a sportair workshop) this whole discussion on safety, building flaws, and this terribly unfortunate fatal accident of this high time experienced pilot has been very disconcerting. thanks for this wonderful, insightful, straight shooting forum.
