The best way is to build the thickness of the protective coating up so you
can just peel it off like a blanket (as opposed to peeling it like a bad
sunburn).

Either brush on a bunch more layers of the protective coating, or lay down
a couple layers of masking tape or package tape - or both.  I had the
coating on for 5 years and after doing the above (to protect it better from
falling tools etc over the years) it peeled right off.
