The Lancair wings are a near laminar flow design and in order to achieve the
performance we want we have to stick to the wing planform as close as
possible. The addition of leading edge tape is desired to keep
bug/rain/debris impact damage to a minimum, but at a cost. Leading edge tape
should be as narrow as possible (1/2"-1" max) to keep from tripping the
boundary layer aft of the impingement area. Using 2" wide tape is too wide,
and should be removed. Keep in mind that the thicker leading edge tapes are
a detriment also, so look for the thinnest that works. Contact Vern, he
should have some really great stuff or ideas on where to get it..
