Back from my annual fishing trip and about caught up on The List.
Re: Teflon/SS wire hinge material, sure is a lot of bad-mouthing Teflon's
suitability for this application. However, as usual, the proof of the
pudding is actually getting it on your bib.
After much wearing and swearing (due to needing to replace several of the
original hinges because of wear - in the first ~150 hours or so) I have had
the Teflon/SS pins installed on almost all my hinges for about 300 hours of
use. All are still snug and make me happy during every pre-flight!
I say "almost" because a few hinges on the airplane don't seem to wear at
all and R & R'ing the hinges is work and the Teflon/SS pins can be a bitch
to install - ergo: I've only done the retrofit on a "as needed" basis.
