I emptied from the sump drain into the bucket (use a piece of alum. tubing, a hose clamp and a small rod to prop the drain open, fuel runs down the tubing into the pail)." Using a bucket to empty gas from a wing is a death wish. I know of three bucket disasters--one burned down a whole hanger complex, and another burned and killed two Rockford brothers (City Firemen, no less!) who were carrying a bucket of gas from an auto gas tank. The third was a local guy who was priming a carb with a half-cup of gas from a jar--burned him to death also. Here is the process for emptying your wings: 1) Disconnect outlet from gascolator (engine side). 2) Slip clear tygon tubing over fitting, and clamp securely. 3) Run tubing into grounded 55 gal drum. 4) Turn on High Boost Pump in plane. ***Perform this operation outside of hangar in open air, and have another person stand by with a large capacity fire extinguisher*** Now, it is up to you to figure out how to get the fuel from the 55 gal drum back into the plane--but don't use a bucket! Be sure to do it in the open, and ground the drum to the plane with a grounding wire. A gravity system with tygon tubing attached to a drum valve works well if you have something capable of elevating the drum above the wing. Be careful. Been there--I was burned severely in a chemical explosion in 1978--If you choose to use the open bucket system, you simply have no idea of the weeks or months of agonizing pain you may have to endure, if you survive at all....
