I agree with everything you said, Pat, especially the bit about the "old
bladder" . And maybe the adage about "old and bold pilots" goes along with that
- that these are two mutually exclusive types!
My advise to Hamid would be look at the statistics for accident causes - top of
the list is running out of fuel. What makes him think he is not part of the
statistical set?
I wouldn't want to be even thinking about "time/fuel available" when suddenly
there is a need to skirt around some weather. Better to be down there for a
"potty-break" (in fine weather), paying the landing fees (in Europe) and
topping up the tanks, than to be up there sweating, swearing and punching "go to
nearest" buttons, with nastiness all around !
Header tank with sight gauge. And whatever level of sophisticated electronics
you want on play with as extra - after all, you deserve something to keep you
amused during the dull periods.
