Thanks for the nice turn on to final. I don't plan to thread the rod.
Can't do it anyway. I think a simple retainer can be fashioned using a bit
of extruded aluminum angle and a nutplate or two with some sort of capture
that will simply screw over the upper end of the rod. All that and gravity
should do it. Of course, a collar must be attached to the rod so it won't
fall out the bottom. It's not yet even a deep thought as finding the rod is
the biggie.
