Hamid. I appreciate your very valid comments on a possible false sense of
security a header tank can provide, but that depends on how you use that
header tank. I keep mine nearly full all the time. I know exactly how much
fuel my wings contain and within 5 minutes of when they will go empty. At
that point I am preparing to land with at least 8-9 gallons in the 12 gallon
header. With my little 235, that's a good 45 minutes of flying (I've checked
it). My wing tanks transfer individually of course, so even if one pump
failed, I still have the other, so I can't imagine a scenario as you
mentioned where I would be "surprised" by a sudden loss of all wing fuel.
Also, my electronic fuel monitoring system is extremely accurate inflight and
provides me good "how goes it" information to play against my GPS in the
event weather impacts my original flight plan and a new destination is
warranted. I've been flying lots of stuff for over 50 years so have reached
the conservative stage of aviation! Bottom line . . .I am always preparing
to land when the wings go empty and with the header nearly full. That gives
me over 4 hours of flight time which is enough for this old bladder. Pat
