Usually only to get weather updates. Not for cell "chatting". The Vaio hard drive in bumpy air is still yet an unknown. We still have the GNS-530 with it's rather large display which of course is required for official IFR flights. If the Vaio works properly in normal flight with perhaps a few bumps I will be pleased, however, there are still variables as you mentioned so only time will tell about its performance. It should work at least 95% of the time as I'm a reasonably fair weather pilot. You are right about the LM-317's. Perhaps I can get them in a TO-3 package which will provide up to 3 amps. We also plan on using a small heatsink to help dissipate thermal energy. If not, I will consider another 3 amp regulator -- perhaps one I can run in parallel with some 3-5 Ohm equalizing resistors. Thank you for the input. Best regards, Dr. D.C.
