Greetings,
As you may recall, I sent
my "generator" engine to Bruce to have the compression raised to 9.7, and to
have all his usual mods done. That was done when I decided not to run the
turbo. Well, it's back now, and looks great, but of course it wouldn't fit
the mount due to the fact that it has the old first gen RX-7 front cover.
Another package from Bruce, and I've now swapped the front cover, and installed
the engine. There was much rejoicing :-)
All the sudden, I have
about 100 cool things to do in the engine compartment. I finally don't
have to imagine how much room there will be here or there, though I could
imagine plenty of space when needed :-)
One thing I noticed right
off the bat, was that the exhaust is going to be very tight, and will interfere
with my plans for an under-engine radiator. Something else I noticed was
how perfectly the turbo fits... Hmmm, with the turbo outlet pointing
forward, I was planning to just make a U-turn out the side of the cowling,
with no muffler. That's starting to be quite appealing now. Of
course this means that I'll be truly normalizing the engine, rather than trying
to make any boost above sea level. Let's see, 200+ HP at 18,000 ft, in an
RV-3 :-)
