Have a friend with a big Hirth in a two place Challenger. He has made at LEAST three forced landings due to unexplained engine failure (he suspects carb ice).
I love two strokes, too... as long as it is on a motorcycle or weedeater. A two stroke is just too finicky for an airplane to suit me. They are small compact, and produce lots of power... but when they fail, they usually fail completely and disatrously with very little warning.  Mike C.

Subject: [FlyRotary] off topic- Hirth engines?

Greetings,

Sorry for the off topic post, but if anyone has any recent experience with Hirth engines, can you email me off-list?  I'm considering one for the Airbike.

Thanks,
Rusty (trying to get an earlier than normal start today)
