Always preheat cast prior to welding,  if you didn't know this, best to practice on something not on your aircraft first. I've been welding on the farm for 40 years but still got a coded welder to weld the critical parts of the exhaust after I had fabricated, tack welded & worked out the welding sequence required to get full welds on all joins.

I know many on the list have welded on the stock cast iron exhaust manifolds, so was wondering if there were any lessons learned / things to avoid?  I’m going to need to cut the down turn off and weld on something to turn it 135 degrees or so, to allow it to ultimately exit out the bottom of the cowling….
