Hi Finn

I am using NGK plugs RE7C-L 6700 and RE9B-T 6701.  I use unleaded 87 Octane car gas – alcohol but no lead and normally go 100 – 150 hours on a set of plugs.  The current plugs were installed about 15 hours ago.

My EC-2 controller is about 20 years old.  My son-in-law Brayton Hackbarth and I are considering burning new A and B chips because RAM and flash ROM doesn’t last forever.   What do you think of this?  We estimate cost to be about $250-$300 total.

Per Jeff Whaley - we are also going to check to make sure the A & B chips are completely inserted in the sockets.

We will look for any cracks on the circuit board traces also.

Which plugs are you using and how many hours on them?

I have an RX-8 in my RV-7a with Tracy’s EC-2 and EM-2.  Recently while cruising the engine lost some power and went into a rough mode.   It only lasted about 2 seconds and returned to smooth running as soon as I switched to the B controller.   I landed and have been running it on the ground to determine the cause.  It has occurred 3 or 4 more times and only lasts seconds.  I believe I have determined that one rotor quits firing when it runs rough.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and is there a fix?

Thanks
