Todd,

              Latest on my upgrade.  The stock wastegate can only open about halfway.  Checked mine and sure enough, hardly moves before striking the outer cover.  What my bloke does is to grind a ‘valley” in the ½ thick cover to allow the wastegate to open twice as far.  Then he rewelds the actuator arm to allow for the extra movement.

Interested to see what he does, as he uses the stock actuator only.

Neil.

All I did to put mine was sprayed some toolmakers ink on the closed wastegate (any spray paint will work), to show clearly the extent of the wastegate coverage. Then I removed the wastegate and the stock wastegate hole is about the size of a dime. The cover is about the size of a dollar coin (Loonie, up here in Canada).

I then used a die grinder to open up the hole to within 1/16" of the coverage of the gate. On the inside I took care to open it up even further to have a smooth inflow path.

I didn't change the bushings on the shaft.

I've never had any trouble controlling boost with that.

But the new one that I've got coming will have an even larger hole without a new larger gate.

Todd,

              I think from memory the waste gate mechanism is welded in (Turbo is at local precision turbos)  If necessary I will do the wastegate upgrade myself.  Easy to put S/S bushes on the shaft – just have to get it all apart.  Possibly famous last words. How did you do yours Todd?

Hi Neil;

 When I talked with him he said his web page is out of date and need an update. But one of the things is all of his upgrades now have an 0.7 A/R

Dave, Todd et all,

                                   I just rechecked BNR upgrades as all have an A/R of 0.6, whereas I think it was you Dave that gave the specs of 1.15??  Did I read it right?  Just have to be sure when I talk to the local bloke who is quoting $1000 AUD for a basic upgrade.  That is approx. $660 USD.  Seems he is to just replace the air turbine and housing only.  I will ask about the wastegate when I talk to him as BRN modify all wastegates, but go for up to 17 PSI.  Only need 7 psi max??

                Think I am finally getting there.  Just need to confirm that the A/R is only 0.6 and not 1.15??    Suggestions?

Neil.
