Mat,

                  Spoke with Chris again, and he says that the current 
setup as per the photo was much quieter than the straight through.  Said 
that with his current muffler (pictured) no one could hear him coming, 
whereas with it as a straight through it was still the "rotary" sound.  
Interesting and confusing.   Neil.
