On the subject of using a cell phone for SPL measurements, you're right to be suspicious. At low volumes, relative measurements might be somewhat valid, but I wouldn't trust it to measure absolutes. At higher volumes, all bets are off. Based on=C2=A0 my experience in a previous life doing live sound work and 'tuning&#= 39; rooms for fixed sound installations, I've never gotten believable numbers using any of my cell phone SPL apps.
