Hi Bobby. The ECU I'm using is Megasquirt with my modified board to add extra features to make it more focused on aviation. I'm using speed density with a separate baro sensor that will keep on adjusting the calculations as you change heights. I don't think the TPS factors into the idle. It's more for acceleration and de-acceleration to add/remove fuel before the engine asks for it.

Throttle is the slide throttle Paul Lamar offers. I did have to machine down the 'slide' to true up the flatness to help slide better. I also drilled small holes at the bottom to stop fuel from puddling up during idle. I think the real benefit of the smooth idling is being able to stage my injectors. Using the smaller 'reds' for idle/taxi, and then applying the modified 'yellows' for cruise/power. The megasquirt is amazing for what it can do.

Can see a bit of the intake in the video too.

Matt,

The p-port appears to idle very well. Are you using “speed density” MP with the boro sensor in the calculation for fuel or TBS for idle? Individual throttle bodies?

  • Neil Unger's PSRU 3.17gears
  • Sensenich's new ground adjustable prop (pitch is undertermined right now)
  • Jeff Doddridge P-port that welds the inside
  • Paul Lamar's slide throttle
  • My custom megasquirt ECU
  • Running red injectors (324cc/min @ 2.25bar (32.6psi)) for idle, and modified yellow's (820cc/min @ 2.25bar (32.6psi)) for power. Right now my fuel pressure is 43.5psi, but I may experiment bumping that up to see effects.

Biggest problem was everyone who has an RX8 setup, still uses the older RX7 starter to fit tracy's psru. The RX8 starter nose is different length then the RX7, which changes the PSRU plate distance, which changes the input shaft, which changes, etc....  I stuck with the newer and stronger RX8 starter, and had to custom everything I received.

Hoping to fly by March 2019
