I have two 1x6 oak planks glued together to form a club that I used for initial running.  It is fairly easy to find two boards at the big box stores that are knot free and have basically no grain run- out.  You'll have to pick through the lot, but it only takes a few minutes.  About 4ft long.  A piece of drill rod riding on roller blade bearings will let you get the static balance to the point that a post-it note on the end will throw it off balance.

I start the balancing by laying nails on the light end till it is balance.  Drill a hole in the heavy end, and subtract nails.  There will be  a correlation between hole size and nails removed.  Let it guide you on how much of a hole to drill.  When you're down to one nail, slow down and move it toward the center as you lighten the heavy end.  When the nail is within a few inches of center, switch over to post-it notes on the light end.  Spin the prop through to make sure there are no heavy spots.  The spin should be at the same speed all the way around, instead of slowing down and speeding up.  Care should be taken that you balance both the major and minor axis.  That is, if the prop were level, how off balance would it be if you dropped it down half an inch?  A hand planer makes of quick job of balancing it on that axis.

I am in the process of fabricating an ignition system similar to Lynn’s system.
Initially I installed 2 RX8 CAS on the front of the from cover 180 degrees apart.
Because this is a pusher installation and I have a lot of hardware such as exhaust augmenter in the way timing will be difficult.
Has anyone attempted installing crank angle sensors in the flex plate area?
I am using a RD-1C. I was thinking of installing a steel screw off of the torsion damper as it is mostly aluminum.
The flex plate will have to be clocked to get one of the 4 “pads” to line up with 24 degrees BTDC.
Has anyone used a weight instead of a prop for initial running?
Thanks for any help
