I moved on from Arduinos years ago. I have programmed and implemented Teensy 2s and Teensy 3s. The Teensy is a great product, easy to use, small footprint, and powerful at a minimal cost. I'd already planned to buy him his own Arduino starter kit just because I think there is a lot of educational value there, but with a goal of building his own EFI for his own Jeep, there will be a lot of motivation to learn.
