Lynn, you mention that racers plug the front cover hole and remove the oil pressure control valve. I long ago modified my front iron to have the oil coming directly out of there and installed one of Richard Sohn's adapters so I have a reservoir of 2-cycle oil, so the only oil that goes into the front cover is to supply lubrication to the gears that drive the oil pump as well as the gears that drive the CAS.
I remembered that there was also an oil passage that came from the front iron after supplying the rotors, etc, that also passed back into the front cover. I'm looking at a Mazda drawing of their oil system and it appears that this line is actually the one that may be supplying the lubrication, in which case I could completely block off this passage and remove the oil pressure control valve which at the very least would save a bit of weight.
I just went searching for a spare front cover that I had to try to examine this, but then I remembered I gave it to Ernest long ago when he was still over here on the good side (Ernest are you coming back?? You might as well throw in a rotary during your rebuild!) How is that rebuild coming?
Can somebody confirm this oil routing?
Todd... had to drink another beer to give me enough time to keep distracting myself from my fencing job...
