Group,
Have discussed many times as to the reasons why
rotarys are not the first choice for builders. While not really
cheap by the time they are ready to fly., they are indestructible
(within reason).
The general consensus seems to end up with the conclusion that
builders have had enough by the time it comes to an engine install,
then --- another 1000 hours. So they take the shortcut and buy a
quick solution. I really like Chris's solution in reality a FWF
package. While Chris is spilling secrets, I also dream of a single
rotor FWF package for the lighter builders (UP to 150 HP). Having
said that, both have a common problem, the rotary exhaust noise and
heat. Cooling is no longer a problem. The answer to both is a
turbo not to overly boost but to normalise at altitude. The turbo
eliminates the need to P port as well. It gives many options as per
HP and gives an acceptable exhaust noise.
The main answer is as I said a FWF package on the market at a
realistic price. Go Chris.
