My EM3 has no DB plug mounted on the side of the box for wiring, like the EC2 has.

I assume we have to solder a ribbon to the board inside and run it out whichever side of the box is convenient for mounting. I suspect I wasn't sure on my mounting location when I bought it, so asked Tracy not to wire it yet. Do you have a pic of that wiring from the board to outside the box?

Tracy gave me a printed manual, I'm just not sure where I put it, I moved a lot of stuff around in anticipation of hurricane Irma last season.

If you have a PDF of the EM3 manual, that would help loads,

For the EM3 to talk to an EC2 it needs a serial link which requires the two connections below plus a common earth
EM3 TB4-4 SERIAL DATA IN SERIAL OUT FROM EC2(J1-pin 7)
EM3 TB4-10 SERIAL DATA OUT SERIAL IN TO EC2(J1-pin 27)
