Apparently IVO won't even sell them to you if you have a Lyc. When I first contacted them, the first thing they asked was what engine I have. I expected the usual bewilderment about the rotary but they were quite approving and commented on the smoothness of it.
As Charlie mentioned the blades can be configured with 2 or 3 blades but spacer blocks are required to use for 2 blades. I carry these 2 blocks with me in the plane as incase of a minor prop strike leaving one damaged blade but otherwise ok, it could be reconfigured and then flown home for further repairs. At least that's what IVO said when he sold me the blocks. But they were cheap enough and don't weigh much.
Most negative reviews about the IVO on faster aircraft never seem to mention whether it was with the standard or deep pitch blades and the few enquiries I've made went unanswered, so I suspect that they were the standard. I've read one good review that was with the deep pitch that sounded overly optimistic.
But I'm so optimistic myself about the performance of these deep pitch blades that I bet $1050usd on it (That's a whole lot more Canadian  $$$).
But really I can't complain much as a good friend has often mentioned, he spent $10k on a CS prop to bolt onto the IO540 that he spent $45k getting rebuilt and he hasn't flown it in a year because he can't solve the cylinder cooling issues (in a BD4).
He endorses my choice for a rotary as he did all the initial flight testing with me while teaching me to fly.

One of the (few) advantages of the IVO is that you can use it in 2 blade or 3 blade configuration in the same hub. If Max wants to try one, he could buy just a hub from IVO & get Todd's blades.

(Been there, done that (on a Lyc); got the lousy cruise speed T shirt. BTW, never, ever, consider one for a Lyc, on *any* airframe.)

Hi Todd,

I understand, actually his airframe is a bit more draggy than an RV.  However, having said that, Max informed me he had talked to IVO and they suggested the try converting his IVO to a two bladed version, they indicated to him that would interfere less with airflow into his cooling inlets.

Tracy Crook tried an IVO prop many years back and came to the same conclusion as you, it was great for take off and climb out but he hit a “wall” around 170 mph and he also noted it interfered with cooling as well.

I’ll let you know if Max is interested, but right now I think he is going to try the two bladed version

Thanks for you candor, Todd – always refreshing

Hi Ed;
I actually wasn't thinking that these would be very ideal for Max as I would have expected his airframe to be similar to an RV airframe. I would expect that He would want the deep pitch version like I just switched to.
But if he's finished with long trips where a high cruise speed is a big priority and is just going to be flying in the Austrian mountains, then yes this prop does have excellent take-off and climb performance. I could get off the ground in 300' (paved runway @2000'asl) and then sustain a 2400'/minute climb rate to 10000'asl. But it cruised best at a meager 120-130 mph. Top speed I ever recall seeing in level flight was 170mph.
The blades are easy to cut down, and I should have done it, as It would have helped the top speed I believe, but I knew that eventually I would want to replace them with the deep pitch blades, and if they were still full length it would be easier to find a new home for them.
I don't know the specs for Max's plane, but I'd suggest he do some research first as I wouldn't think they would be his best choice and he will still have to by a hub as well. And it should be the electric hub to get the most performance out of these blades. The electric CS governor is a nice addition too.
If I seem like I'm trying to avoid perspective customers, I just want to be honest about it. I originally bought it used (almost new, never flown) from a former list member long ago who was being forced to sell off his project. I was still pretty naive about props back then (still am :-), but he was never dishonest, while still being pretty enthusiastic about how it would be a great prop for me. First flight was somewhat tempered with disappointment at cruise speeds, but I learned to be very happy with the climb instead.

I’ll pass this on to Max and see if he may be interested in getting some IVO prop blades to modify.

I no longer have a need for my old prop blades. They are 76"×30-90", left hand turning. (can be cut down)
I'm selling without the hub as im using that with the new blades.
These are not suited for a small, fast airplane, but would be good for a larger slower airplane that wants a variable pitch.
Unfortunately (for me)a large, slow airplane would probably also be better suited to using the RD-1C with 2.85:1 reduction which is right hand turning.
So most likely prospective buyer already has this prop and may be interested in a few spare replacement blades.
If someone needed these for a new install then they would have to buy the hub from IVO.
I'm not even sure what these would be worth, so I'm open to offers.
