Yeah, I've always accepted that whole risk/reward stuff, but at the beginning of summer I submerged/destroyed a $1200 D7200, that Nikon was not able to fix. So I replaced it with a $2800 D500. I find myself holding this one with a much tighter grip. The Contour POV cam, I'm a little less worried about, but I'd still not like to lose it.
I really like the shot that Doug shared that was mounted on the VS.

I felt that way the first time I tried it but after many flights I have come to trust it.
I take a wet paper towel in a zip lock with me so I can be sure the area is clean prior to attaching it.
 
When my plane is flying, the mounts will be substantially stronger.
 
There is always risk associated with reward. I was wondering if perhaps I was flying into a hornets nest of traffic as I was entering the eclipse corridor but it all worked out.
