So with my inability to find a gen2 RX-7 flexplate I have ordered a lightweight steel Flywheel from RacingBeat.
My thoughts are to have the 4 bolt holes machined in the flexplate or 6 holes in the spline and drill out the rivets to remove the damper plate.
From reading the archives it seems the spline directly mounted is what Tracy did for the RD-2C but that it's a different spline setup.
Anyone done this? Am I better to continue searching for the auto flexplate?

Mark,
I can't help you with the flywheel question, but if you want to find a flexplate, try

(Don't forget that hyphen.)
I just searched for an '88 RX-7 flexplate; got dozens of hits.
I'd advise calling your shop of choice directly, & getting the guy to carefully inspect the one he has for sale prior to shipping. Explain that you've seen them cracked before, and that the cracks can sometimes be hard to see. The guy I bought from was very accommodating. Tell him what to look for: where cracks are likely to be. Flexplate cracking isn't an a/c-only issue; I've got one here that's cracked and has never been on a plane.
