Had an ignition coil fail in flight. Hardly noticed it - just could feel a little roughness of the engine. The coil was an original RX-8 coil with 735 flight hours. Replaced it with one from Auto Zone - $29. I have shopped Amazon and the OEM Mazda coil reviews indicate Mazda coils fail often and early! I have found several "racing" or "improved" quality coil deals on the web and wonder if anyone has tried any of the "Better" coils?  I believe Tracy  recommended the  AC Delco coils but my EC- 2 was built to drive the Mazda RX-8 coil system.  Anyone have an EC-2 set up for AC Delco coils they want to sell?

PS:  I have a 3/8 clear vinyl tube attached to the OEM oil filler vent pipe and never see any oil blown out.  I normally do not exceed 6200 rpm during normal flight.

I just put a breather on the oil fill tube. Big enough volume tube and I doubt oil will travel that far up to the breather.

It's crossed my mind, but while I have a little more time to work on the plane these days, I don't have that much time! You'd be forgiven for thinking that I'm in the same time zone as our brothers down under, as I'm usually burning the midnight oil when I'm making postings to the list at the end of my day.
One of these years I'll make a tour down there and try to time it with your fly-in.

Oooo, me like! I've *wondered* about doing that, but never bothered to ask if anyone's tried it. Works great for cars, so....

How about setting a rotary record & flying down to MS for the roundup next month? I know you have the tankage for it. :-)

I just tubed it over to the air filter box, but I've always been curious as to what others are doing with this as well, but just never bothered to ask.

I am finally finishing my renesis rebuild, with so much help from this list-- thanks

My question is with regard to the ventilation of the case. it seems that the rotary has a nipple off of the filler tube for this purpose... (I don't think that I have that tube currently and will probably make one)

Using this port, is it a good idea to just plumb it out of the back of the airplane as with a crank case vent?
Is the amount of oil/vapor created significant enough to collect it and recycle it?

What ch'all doing?

Thanks again,

Rich
