Yes, it's back together. Seems the problem was what the good folks at Mazdatrix felt was the least likely reason (they have always been helpful). My rear stationary bearing was TRASHED.   I have torn the engine down, verified tolerances, replaced a couple of stuck side seals, and two apex seals that were slightly questionable in the rear housing. 

After not being satisfied with the adding more oil "solution" I said screw it.....or something similar, and just tore it down. I've said it before, and it is more so now, the idea of opening up the engine is easier each time. Perhaps naively so, but each time garners more confidence in ability and understanding. What seemed tricky and stressful before are now just steps in the process. Of course it's not lost on me that us have screwed it up before.  Any of y'all are welcome to come down and hold my hand as you inspect my work....ok, no hand holding but I value a visit from one and all. 

Obviously, the rear bearing (and gear) was replaced new as was the rear rotor bearing that showed slight wear. The front rotor bearing and front stationary gear bearing were fine. Since it was mentioned here, I verified the oil pickup tube was solid and installed properly as well as my mod to the pesky front o-ring. 

I have been able to clean up the overall install a bit more and am looking forward to fine tuning now that I have seemingly got the timing to play nice. 

The current issue is that the PCM is not responding as before. It seems to be related to the program knob. Ill position the knob, press the program button but don't get a response consistently. The program button seem ok as it primes in Mode 0 fine. Also, the mixture knob adjusts the mixture as expected.

I have two, but one is with Tracy for repair (....the program button physically broke on my first PCM, he also has my EM2) and, as luck would have it, my second one is not responding properly to input from the Program knob.  The program button is ok, as I can prime the engine in Mode 0 fine, but when I try to tune in Mode 1 or 9, moving the knob and pressing the button give me sporadic results.

Thanks guys/gals, as I think I have banged out my recent set backs and have the engine seemingly running properly, sans proper tuning. 

......what are the odds???????
