Answer to this is always the same. Engines need three things to start. 1. Fuel in a combustible ratio with air 2. Spark at the right time 3. Compression Find out which one (or more) is missing and you will have the answer. Ether will light off in a very wide range of F/A mixtures. When trouble shooting these things I don't hesitate to use a shot of ether to eliminate fuel as the problem. Use the kind with lubricant in it. NAPA brand does. Tried to start my just overhauled engine. Did cough a couple of times after I dumped a bit of fuel in through the intake ports. There is fuel in the carb bowls. May have an air leak somewhere in intake path.
I think I read not to use ether, but use WD40 instead?
Should I spray some Marvel Mystery Oil into the cambers to get better sealing?
No more time to experiment today, so any tips for tomorrow are appreciated.
