A chapter approached our chapter to participate in learn how to fly day at
the airport that we are based at. They orginized the whole thing and our
participation was showing off aircraft that the members had built or
restored. Our chapter, 127, is a builder group that covers all disciplines.
We had tables set up with displays for composite, rag and tube, metal and
wood. I was at the composite table and on the way out the door this morning
I grabbed an old rotor and a rotor housing and Tracy's book and thought it
would be a attention getter. While the guys were showing off their beautiful
A/Cs I noticed that a lot of people looked at the rotor and rotor housing,
asked all kinds of questions and generally had a great time thanking me for
explaining the rotary. I was totally blown away. Here I was, a builder
taking forever to build a rotary powered aircraft which is still in my
garage, being somewhat envious of the completed lycoming aircraft builders
and I was fielding all kinds of questions with a rotor, a housing and
Tracy's book. Go figure.
